FACEBOOK OUTAGES

Hello and happy birthday to my nephew and Bruno Mars - both short, both lovable.

This week we’re talking Facebook outages, #couchguy, Kylie swim, and why newspaper outlets are sensationalizing “attacks on teachers” inspired by TikTok.

Personally, I could not have been less affected by the Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp outages.

I had friends sending texts to group chats like

“WHAT AM I GONNA DO DURING THIS MEETING?” and I was just like… “hon, you good? Ever heard of TikTok? Twitter? Reddit? Actually doing your job and not senselessly texting this group chat about your woes?” It made me question my friendships, but mostly my sanity. I went about my day as I normally do, with one less distraction (WhatsApp) constantly pinging my phone.

Professionally, however, there were impacts. Both great and small. What were those impacts?

Namely a tranquil peace that washed over me as I realized I didn’t have to scroll through the worst platform on Earth (Instagram) to stay up to date on news sources via their Instagram stories to feed this newsletter.

Just kidding I love feeding this newsletter - it feeds my soul and my ego. MUAHAHA. Mostly brands just having a field day on Twitter. OK, but seriously, there were major impacts for businesses all around the world who rely on Facebook to deliver their advertising messages! It was a huge deal and likely cost the company billions of dollars. Actually, I know it cost them billions of dollars. Or at least one man… And a lot of people are wondering what really happened.

What was most interesting about this Facebook outage is that it came one singular day after 60 Minutes did a segment on the Facebook Whistleblower. PHISSSHYYYY.

Also, remember how I was like

“I will go berserk if someone writes some article about Emily Mariko?”

Well...here we are.

and here we go…
