ASTROWORLD, TAYLOR, PETE

Hey,

We’re talking about 3 big topics this week and then you get the goods:

ASTROWORLD

Last week we really dove in to a difficult subject and I was so happy with how this beloved newsletter turned out. I closed my computer feeling ready for the weekend having covered off on some of the biggest topics of the week and merely hours later, 10 people, some of whom were children, were trampled to death at Travis Scott’s festival, AstroWorld, in Houston, TX. I wish I had been able to share this news sooner but here we are. Here’s a full report on what happened at AstroWorld and all that we know about it.

The narrative surrounding AstroWorld is problematic at best.

The problem is simple - most mega-celebrities are irresponsible with their influence. They put profit before human lives. And that’s exactly what Travis Scott did at AstroWorld. It’s not about how he didn’t stop playing. It’s not about how he incites rage at his concerts. And it’s not about how he markets himself. The devastation about this event focuses around profits winning over human life.

Say what you want about celebrities - many of them do a lot of good in this world, I get it - they are wealthy humans that are put on a pedestal and the goal is to make money off our obsessions with them. They hold influence. WE PAY THEM AS BRANDS TO WIELD IT. And sometimes they do a really shitty job.

TAYLOR SWIFT

Speaking of influence… I’ve gotta be frank with you - my Swiftie status has absolutely ruined my algorithm this week so I’m DOING MY BEST to bring you the tea while I blink back tears and think about every single ex-boyfriend I’ve ever had the displeasure of knowing. Idk what to say. She re-released Red. There’s a 10 minute version of All Too Well. She’s released a short film of All Too Well at 7pm on Friday. She went #1 on Spotify in 10 minutes. Actually, she BROKE Spotify. People who hated her are being reminded of why she’s so good - she just gives the fans what they want. And per the above point, she profits, because let’s remember why this project exists in the first place.

AND PETE. OH, PETE.

Pete Davidson is having a moment online. Lots of TikToks and Tweets about him and his sexual skill sets and why Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, and a long list of other women have been found on his arm. Or I guess... why he’s been found on THEIR arms. I think this tweet says it best. But also this TikTok. And also the fact that attractiveness has been defined by the male gaze since the dawn of time and it’s actually MEN who cannot understand why women find Davidson so hot. I’m just going to leave you with what Emily Ratajkowski said on Late Night with Seth Myers: "I feel like only other men feel [that he isn't attractive]. Guys are like, 'Wow. What's that guy got?' And I'm like, I mean, he seems super charming, he's vulnerable. He's lovely. His fingernail polish is awesome. He looks good!" Further, he has a "good relationship with his mom." She concluded, "We love it. It's hard to find them."

“The feminine urge” or “the masculine urge” is all over Twitter and now making its way onto TikTok.
What is this? Just read the tweets and you’ll get it:

Andddd here. we. go.

I wish I had more for you this week, but Taylor just...she has a hold on me. GG cry sum more BYE!!!
