IF I HAD A PODCAST
Good day!
I was having an utter meltdown the other day about what to write for this thing. And it wasn’t because I’m just like… you know… completely at a loss for English words given the news right now. No no. I am at a loss because there is *!*so much*!* so so so so much going on online right now. Like I cannot even begin to start with one singular topic but I’m going to do my best.
Here is a list of things I would create a podcast around if I had a podcast:
KATE BUSH AND STRANGER THINGS!
The fact that everyone and their mother is recreating Running Up That Hill on TikTok.
The fact that the song was popular in 1985. Then the band Placebo covered it in 1997ish which brought it back with some notoriety in the pre-streaming days AND NOW Kate Bush is absolutely reaping the profits seeing as it has 306,899,769 streams on Spotify and continues to BOOM… thanks to Stranger Things.
Everyone was sort of on the fence about the comeback of Stranger Things, but as someone who loved the show from the get go, it’s kind of comforting to see everything come together. And I don’t just mean the storyline.
The culmination of this show in 2022 is really the bridge between the new and the old making us all feel like we’re watching something we’ve never seen before. Watch it with someone born in 1977 and they’ll tell you “I think they do one of the best jobs of showing the 80s ever captured on film. And I’m glad to see good music being used in the show and not just generic crap.”
THIS coupled with the fact that you’re basically watching every horror trope from Carrie to Halloween and Friday the 13th is absolutely insane.
Watch it. Embrace it. It’s good.
MARILYN MONROE AND BRITNEY.
The fact that there are so many similarities between these 2 human beings and how we still treat them like they’re a spectacle even though one died from the side effects of mental illness and we watch the other struggle through that very experience in front of us.
The goddamn DRESS and how it was literally being housed at Ripley’s in Florida yet we’re all talking about Kim as if she destroyed an artifact that has been perfectly preserved. Not the case but we’ll do anything to shame a Kardashian (including me) while not getting at the heart of the problem, which is that… we’re treating these women like property of the public. Which they very much ARE NOT.
LIZZO UPDATING HER SONG TO REMOVE AN OFFENSIVE WORD.
I think it’s absolutely unbelievable that Lizzo listens to her fan and went in and completely changed the lyrics to Grrrls. What I love even more is that Lizzo actually uses social media to listen to what her fans are saying and respond to it. She skirts mainstream media wherever she can and while her rise to fame was a lot slower than most, she’s been rewarded for the deep connections she’s built with her following.
I think I’d just spend the whole podcast laughing but you def wouldn’t be able to stop listening.
Ok here are other things:
